Full Initial Evaluations Matter

Child Find REQUIRES Schools to Evaluate Students with SUSPECTED Disabilities

Children DO NOT have to have a diagnosis before they can be evaluated.

There only has to be a suspicion of a disability.

  • RTI or MTSS cannot be used as a reason to delay, or deny. an evaluation.
  • Grades alone cannot be used as a reason to delay, or deny, an evaluation.
  • You don't have to wait three years for a reevaluation

What you request matters.

Ask for a Full Initial Evaluation (FIE) in all 8 areas, or you'll only get what you ask for.

Ask for only Dyslexia evaluation, get only Dyslexia. You may miss out on discovering other areas of need.

IEPs aren't only for academics, during their educational day, your child may need help:

  • Making friends
  • Organizing work
  • Taking Notes
  • Managing their ADHD
  • Eating Lunch
  • During PE
  • With Anxiety
  • Using assistive technology
  • Playing at recess

IEPs can provide related services such as:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Counseling
  • Audiology
  • Interpreters
  • Interveners
  • Music Therapy
  • And many more!

IEPs mean we give the child what they need to prepare them for further educaiton, employment, and independent living.

How you request an FIE matters.

Request the Full Initial Evaluation (FIE) in writing.

Your written request is the record which starts the timeline.

Schools choose to approve or deny a FIE.

  • If approved, the school will ask you to sign Notice and Consent.

  • If denied, you can request an Independeent Educaitonal Evaluation (IEE).                              If that's denied, the school must sue you under due process. (<--- That's the law!)

Data Matters - Steal My Script!
